While the internet does make it easy for anyone to access almost any kind of information that they are searching for. Here are some things that you can do to protection yourself from online identity theft.

1. Strong Passwords: Whenever you do any type of business transactions online or even financial transaction make sure that you use strong passwords. People
are known to use weak passwords and even have been known to use the same password for all their financial transactions because it makes it easy to remember.
However you can easily keep a log of your passwords in a notebook at home so that you can easily remember them next time you try to sign on.

A lot of people use easy passwords to remember like their child’s name or even their pets name. There is nothing wrong with this however you could try using:

Child’s name: Ryan

Lets say Ryan was born in ‘80 and your birthday is in January

You could easily use 01ryAn80 This would make it difficult for someone to try to decipher instead of just using ryan as your password. You have to get a little creative; however it is worth the time.

2. Emails: We all receive junk email and it can become a headache; however if you get an email that you have no idea who sent it to and they are asking for personal information; never provide any type of personal information over the internet even if you know who it is. One other thing you may want to know is that if you get an email from someone that you do know like a bank, ebay or anyone else and they say that someone this is wrong with your account. Open up your account in the web browser instead of using the link that they sent you. This will protect you from online identity theft and someone easily taking your identity.

3. Antivirus and Anti-spyware software: You should always make sure that you have these two protection packages on your computer. It can literally protect
you from someone stealing your identity. Spyware can easily collect all your personal information and send all that information back to the person who is trying to gather your identity. To find out more about anti spyware and get it here.

4. Avoid paying with your debit card: There is nothing wrong with making financial purchases online; however it is much safer to use a credit card rather than a debit card. It provides more protection than a debit card and does not give the hacker full access to your bank account. One of the things that I do whenever I make a purchase online is get a prepaid visa card that will enable me to use it just as a credit card; however it has the money that I put on it and no one will be able to charge it because once the money runs out; there is no more available balance on it. This quiets my mind from someone using my credit card for illegal purchases. You can easily find out more about prepaid visa cards here.

If you follow these tips and just take precautionary measures when you do any type of business online; then you will protect yourself from online identity theft. So enjoy your internet life and do not be afraid to do whatever you do online; just remember the best offense is making sure that you have the best defense.
