Protect yourself against credit theft fraud protection especially if you lose your purse or wallet. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you go shopping and you have to try on a pair of pants to make sure that they fit?
Well after trying on that pair of pants you realize that you do not like them; so you end up leaving the store. Well as you get to your car or even as you get home you realize that you left your pocket book in the dressing room. Well now what do you panic? You have heard about all these stories about credit theft and fraud protection and now you can easily become a victim of that crime.
Well before you panic too much; here are some steps for you to take:
1. Call The Store: Someone may be nice enough to return your pocket book to the owner of the store or leave it at the cashier stand and let them know that you forgot it in the dressing room. However if you have cash in it; you can kiss it goodbye. (at least they took mine.)
2. Cancel Your Credit Cards: If you happened to be carrying some credit cards in your pocket book; then it is time to cancel them. This will ensure that no one is using them and charging them to their limits.
3. Contact All Three Credit Bureaus: This will notify them that to issue a red alert on your personal information so that no one can open up any type of accounts in your name. The three credit bureaus are:
Experian: (800) 301-7195
Transunion: (800) 680-7289
Equifax: (800) 525-6285
While you are contacting these three services you may also want to get the information for the social security fraud line as well.
Social Security Administration: (800) 269-0271
If you follow these steps if you find yourself in a situation where you lose your purse or wallet then you should definitely be able to protect yourself against credit theft fraud. The main thing is to take action quickly before someone is able to use your personal information in the wrong way. Just remember most people are good and if they find your information or pocket book they will return it to a store employee so do not forget to check with the store that you lost it in
