Okay so you are the type of person who has been monitoring all your personal information to avoid being a victim of this crime known as identity theft. However what do you do if you still find some credit report errors? You take the time to shred all your personal information before you throw out important paper work, you safeguard your personal information; yet you get turned down for that loan that you need for school, your mortgage or whatever else that you planned on doing.
So now it is time to check your credit report to find out if there are any credit report errors. Well it is not uncommon for something to be on your credit report even if you take all the necessary precautions; I for once found out that someone had purchased some furniture under my name. I still believe that it was not a case of identity theft; I believe that it was a simple human error like a mix up of a number in the social security number or something like that.
Well if you do find some of the common credit report errors like:
- Incorrect report of nonpayment on a loan or debt
- Error in name spelling or mix up between someone else in the family who has the same name
- Open accounts that you have not knowledge about
- Misfiling by a department store regarding one of your credit accounts
One of the first thing you want to do is get proof of the error. You will usually get a copy of it by the creditor that has made the error. You will want to ensure that you have a copy of this letter before you even consider filing for a re-score. You will need proof to show them that the issue in topic was an error made by someone else and not you.
If you notice that the error occurred and that you may possibly be a victim of identity theft; then you will definitely want to contact the three main credit bureaus immediately so that they can issue a red flag alert on your personal information.
The best thing to do is to have a great identity theft program watching over your personal information to ensure that you never have to deal with this situation. So before you do anything else; you may want to request a free copy of your credit report to ensure that there are no
credit report error on it that you have to deal with
